Semester System, Class Schedule
& Tuition Information
The North Country Tai Chi LLC structures its academic calendar just like a university or college, ordering classes around a semester calendar with each semester lasting 4 months.
The fee for Tai Chi instruction is collected as a tuition and enrollment grants access to an unlimited number of in-person or online Tai Chi classes, with over 190 classes to choose from each semester, and 24/7 access to the On-Demand Video Library of 200+ videos. Students pay the semester's tuition in full prior to the start of instruction. Since our Tai Chi Basics class is taught in a circular fashion, any day is a good day to join our school. If you find your way to us mid semester, it’s still a good time to jump into practice. Master Sean will appropriately prorate your tuition and get you immersed in the next practice.

Class Descriptions
All our classes at North Country Tai Chi LLC begin with a series of warm-ups, Qi Gong, and a classic meditation called Tree Standing meditation. A very brief cool down concludes each class.
Tai Chi Basics
At North Country Tai Chi, no class is more important than our Tai Chi Basics course. All Tai Chi movement is an expression of layered simplicity and our basics course introduces you to the logic of how to do that intelligently and in balance. This is a time-tested tradition taught one step at a time. Tai Chi Basics will allow you to sense or "feel" these movements as an intuitive expression of yourself at play. You are already perfect and learning Tai Chi let's you feel that way by helping your body relax systematically.
Tai Chi Basics includes a series of 8 movements called “The Wheel.” There are four basic hand movements and four basic steps that you can practice live with your classmates. No matter at which point you step onto “The Wheel” that is the right point for you to begin, as we are moving in a circle of encounters.
As you build greater familiarity with The Wheel, we will add other movements until we arrive at “form work” (routine sequences). In this way, you will get to learn the “Gate of Life” sequence of 10 movements and also the “24 Form” while part of Tai Chi Basics.
There are usually three types of students in a Basics Class: 1) new students who are enjoying their process of discovery in The Wheel, 2) students who are able to practice one or more of our Basic forms with assistance from friends, and 3) advanced students who are actively advancing their own insight by helping others to learn. This makes for a very resource rich and comfortable environment for the new student experience!
Since Tai Chi Basics cycles through basic movements continuously, there is no need to wait for the start of a semester to begin.
Intermediate Tai Chi
Our Intermediate Tai Chi class centers on form practice. You can expect to regularly play the Gate of Life, the 24 Form, and to learn and play more advanced forms such as the 48 or 108 Forms.
The first thing that might strike you about our Intermediate Tai Chi class are the number of advanced students who populate this class. An Intermediate class is a perfect place to discover an advanced insight, and their “ah-ha” moments are often valuable insights to students encountering this class for the first time. A majority of our advanced students practice during the Intermediate Class in order to build a truly advanced perspective about the movement of Qi.
The Saturday Practice
The Saturday Practice is an institution all to itself; a special hour designed to bring everyone together for one hour. It’s designed to be especially playful, spontaneous, and Master Sean makes a point to make it different every time. This “wild card “approach to this one class creates the possibility of sudden insight for students of every level. The class is full of smiles and laughter, and many students attribute this particular class to breakthrough moments in their practice. It’s a wonderful way to begin your Saturday morning and kick start your weekend.
Fun Fact: Students (and Master Sean) will continue the school tradition of wearing silly or brightly colored socks to The Saturday Practice. Dig through your sock drawer and display your finest for all to admire.
Advanced Tai Chi
This class follows the Saturday Practice and focuses attention on advanced Tai Chi. It also shares a fresh “wild card” and creative approach to the comparative study of forms and styles. With all the advanced students together, we might choose to spend an entire class on one form, or instead investigate how one movement (such as “Single Whip”) might be expressed differently across a number of forms. On subsequent Saturdays, we may shift focus to movements from Sun or Chen Style or take an in-depth look at Qi Gong. Although the curriculum changes from semester to semester, one can expect to eventually encounter the 48 and 108 of Yang style and the 36 and 73 movements of Sun style, and perhaps a little Tai Chi sword.
Special Seminars
On occasion there is reason to run a Special Seminar in Tai Chi. This is done when a large cohort of students are about to make a major breakthrough in their practice. Although there are no special seminars on the schedule for the remainder of the year, several past seminars are recorded and fully available in the On Demand Video Library. For example, the library contains Special Seminars on the 24 and 48 Yang style forms. Future Special Seminars could include 42 Competition Sword, Sun Style 36 or 73 Form, Old Yang 108, or Chen Style 18 or 74.
